Early Summer in Europe? These 3 Are Booking Fast

Hi All,

We just spent an impromptu week in the Peak District enjoying some late spring sunshine—which got us thinking about how to make the most of those sunny windows.

Now's the time to book for June and July, before prices rise and the best stays get snapped up.

This week's shortlist includes coastal calm, mountain highs, and a sun-drenched island that's perfect just before the crowds arrive.

1. ALGARVE, PORTUGAL

WHY BOOK NOW?

May and early June are ideal in the Algarve: sunny days, empty beaches, and warm (but not scorching) temps around 24°C.

Beyond the sand, the region has dramatic cliffs, hidden coves, and charming towns like Lagos and Tavira that are perfect for slow exploration and seafood feasts.

BOOKING TIPS

  • Flights: Ryanair has direct flights from London Stansted to Faro, with one-way fares starting at £14.99 on select dates in June. EasyJet operates flights from London Gatwick to Faro, with prices beginning at £39.99 in June.
  • Where to Stay: Casa Mãe (Lagos) is a boutique stay where design meets laid-back luxury. Vila Vita Parc (Porches) is a lush coastal resort with serious food credentials.
  • Don't miss: The Seven Hanging Valleys Trail – a coastal cliff walk with unforgettable views.

2. THE DOLOMITES, ITALY

WHY BOOK NOW?

If you want crisp alpine air and world-class hiking, June in the Dolomites is the time to go. Trails are open, wildflowers are blooming, and it's quiet before the school holidays begin.

Base yourself in a mountain village, hike during the day, and wind down with polenta and wine in the evenings.

We've written a lot about the Dolomites – this guide is a good starting point.

BOOKING TIPS

  • Flights: Fly to Venice or Verona and rent a car for an easy, scenic drive north.
  • Where to Stay: Hotel Lago di Braies has iconic lake views and early trail access on the beautiful, but popular Lago di Braies. Rosa Alpina (San Cassiano) is an elegant alpine lodge with a Michelin-starred twist.

      3. CRETE, GREECE

      WHY BOOK NOW?

Crete in June is warm, vibrant, and just shy of the peak summer rush. You get sunshine, swimmable seas, and still-affordable rates—before the island gets busy in July and August.

From the beaches of Elafonissi to the Venetian streets of Chania, Crete is a mix of ancient ruins, mountain villages, and relaxed seaside life.

      BOOKING TIPS

      • Flights: EasyJet flies direct from London Gatwick to Heraklion, with fares starting at £70.99 in June.
      • Where to Stay: Casa Delfino (Chania) is an elegant townhouse hotel in the old port. Cretan Malia Park is an eco-friendly resort with great food and private beach access.
      • Don't miss: Samaria Gorge – a 16km hike through one of Europe's longest canyons, best tackled before the heat of high summer.
