How to Spookify Your House for Halloween!

Since moving from South Africa into our first home together in San Diego last year, I've had a lot of fun going ALL OUT during the holidays. As you may or may not already know, my partner, Meyer, is South African (where Halloween isn't a tradition) and I grew up in California (where Halloween is a pretty big deal), so this time of year is especially fun for me.

Growing up, my mom decked out the house with Halloween decor, so I may have taken a note or two from her and am thrilled to keep the tradition alive.

As soon as September comes around, I love to decorate my front porch with cozy fall décor. And then, as we began to shift toward October, it's ON. We're talking about a full pet cemetery, a spooky tree, a projector playing creepy videos onto our curtains, and lots of giant spiders.

While we're being very intentional and conscious about the decor we are adding to our arsenal, this year we went even bigger...and better!

I like to think I run in two modes: summer in Europe or holiday mode — and this time around... we went full pumpkin spice latte. ;)

My complete guide to how to spookify your house for Halloween (including each and every decorative item and how everything is set up) is live now!

My Journey Begins Once Again!

Hey, Occu! Has it been a year and a half, maybe 2 years or more that I haven't been traveling internationally? Well, that exodus ends now. I still remember the excitements I often get when visiting a new country every few months, exploring all the country has to offer and interacting with the locals quite fondly. The last country I visited was Taiwan. It was for my birthday in 2019 before the sh*t hits the fan with the pandemic. My god, that was so long ago! After that, I have not been visiting any new country ever since. So much has changed since then and traveling is becoming a whole lot harder than it used to. But that won't stop me from traveling. My terrible third-world passport didn't stop me from traveling then, COVID-19 restrictions won't be stopping me now, especially after 2 years of involuntary sabbatical. So when I finally got myself double jabbed, I proceeded to acquire a vaccine passport (the yellow book), got myself tested (RT-PCR), and off I went to the empty Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok right before curfew to fly to my first new country in 2 years. The United Arab Emirates, one of the few countries that are almost completely opened, and I will be using it as a base for the next few months, hopefully exploring East Africa starting with Tanzania and so on. Why the UAE? Because of its central location? Yes, but also, I'm not gonna lie, I am SICK of living in countries that are always under partial lockdowns like Thailand. I believe, in order to get out of this pandemic, we have to learn to live with COVID-19, and UAE seems to be leading the way whereas Thailand, is still stuck in limbo. UAE is also kickstarting its EXPO 2020 event in October and I will be there for it so if you are interested in visiting Dubai in the next 6 months, stay tuned to my blog. Plenty to come soon about Dubai and UAE. East Africa is gonna be a big journey and one that I have always wanted to do and I am extremely excited about. Plus, November will be the birthday month for me and if you have been following me for a while, I often reserve my birthday for epic adventures and I have something pretty epic in mind for this year so stay tuned. I will be constantly uploading stories and photos from my trip on Instagram so be sure to follow me there as well for a live view of my journey.
