Cultural norms around the world

Part of the allure of travel is experiencing new cultures.

With that can also bring with it a bit of culture shock...but if you know what to expect, you won't be caught off-guard and can fully enjoy the local customs.

Here are some unique cultural norms to look forward to on your Under30Experiences trip:

1. Morocco: Call to prayer

If you visit Morocco, you will quickly notice that their call to prayer happens five times a day.

The call to prayer in broadcast over loud speakers wherever there is a mosque, so don't be surprised if you hear this often throughout your stay in Morocco.

2. Thailand: Daily national anthem

Speaking of loud broadcasts, Thailand broadcasts their national anthem twice daily, both at 8:00 am and 5:00 pm.

If you are not aware what is happening, it can catch you off guard to see people stop in their tracks to listen.

3. Vietnam: Motorbike traffic

To the untrained eye, motorbike traffic in Vietnam will look like complete chaos.

But upon further investigation, you'll see that there is a method to the madness and the locals are very accustomed to this way of driving.

4. Costa Rica: Respect of creepy crawlies

In your day-to-day life, if you come across insects (inside or out) your first inclination may be to use bug spray to eliminate them.

In Costa Rica, it is the opposite. They acknowledge that they cohabitate with insects and will try their best to not kill them.

5. Spain: Late dinner time

The midnight snack takes on a whole new meaning in Spain, where it is typical to eat dinner anywhere between 9:00 pm and 12:00 am.

If you are eating this late, we also suggest taking part in their daily siestas to give you that extra boost of energy needed for your extended day.
