The best kind of Black Friday deals
Hello Occu V !
The holidays always seem to pass in a blur, don't they? A lovely blur of too much food, family feuds over board game cheaters, and the old favorite movies played on repeat, but it can start to feel a bit like groundhog day.
How about shaking things up a bit this year, and volunteering in an eco-village in Costa Rica? Or creating videos at a surf camp 🏄 in Colombia? Or even helping to shape lives in a children's home in Transylvania?
Well, today I'm bringing you the goods to help make that happen. Think of it as an early Christmas present 🎁.
Worldpackers is a community that connects you with volunteer opportunities all around the world 🌏. The hosts you can connect with are all looking for a few hours of help in exchange for free accommodation, and maybe even your meals thrown in too. The type of help needed varies between each opportunity but you could be picking vegetables at a farm, posting on social media for a boutique hotel, or teaching sports to underprivileged kids.
For the whole of November, you can get $10 off when you sign up to Worldpackers. Pretty good, right? Wait, I've got even more for you. You'll also get 2 whole months free as a bonus when you sign up this month. If you needed a sign to get out into the world, this is it! Get the deal here.
There might not be any sweet potato pie where you're heading, but I can guarantee you one of the most memorable Thanksgiving's you'll have had 🦃.
Chat soon,
Melissa 👋

Just a Couple of Happy Campers
I just got back from a quick overnight camping trip with my best friend and her daughter. It was her daughter's first time camping and I can confidently say we built some "core memories."
If you haven't seen Disney's "Inside Out," I highly recommend it and that reference will make more sense!
We stayed at Moro Campsite in Laguna Beach. It's a beautiful campsite where basically every campsite has ocean views. We rented an Airstream through Outdoorsy, roasted marshmallows, and had the perfect little overnight getaway.
I'm refreshing existing camping content and putting together some new guides. If you have any requests, I'm all ears!
As a reminder, if you're thinking about camping in California, campsite reservations usually open up 6 months in advance and book out almost instantly.
So, if you have your heart set on camping pretty much anywhere in California, you have to plan/book way in advance. It can be a frustrating system, but I do appreciate that it gives everyone a fair chance to experience some of the best spots.
And, if you haven't been to Yosemite before, you may just want to add that to your camping bucket list.
P.S. I'm also in the process of updating gift guides for 2021 — if there are any folks you need ideas for (i.e. dog moms, incredible businesswomen, travelers, etc., I've got you covered). Let me know if you have any specific requests!
