Hey
One of the most common questions I get regarding earning miles and points with credit cards is: Who can open a business credit card, which often have the best signup bonuses and lowest fees?
The short answer is, almost anyone can.
If you're doing something on your own (not as an employee) with the intention of making money, you're a business.
You don't need a formal business — or any business income — to get a business credit card. A side hustle or hobby that generates extra cash is entrepreneurial enough to qualify for most of the best Business credit cards.
Are you a freelancer?
Are you a sole proprietor?
Are you a blogger? Photographer? Writer?
Do you walk dogs, babysit, or sell things you've made?
Do you have a side hustle or plan to at some point in the future?
Do you resell items on secondhand marketplaces like Poshmark or Mercari?
Are you a rideshare driver?
If you said yes to any of those, you could apply for a business card using your name as the business name and SSN as the tax ID. It's perfectly acceptable to put that your business makes $0 in revenues (you could be getting the card to start one up) It's that simple!
As with any credit card, this will impact your personal credit score and you do need great credit to get approved for the best cards, but I love business credit cards for the perks and low fees! I've been a holder of this card for nearly 10 years because I love the 3x points on travel and this card because I love the 5x points on flights and lounge access! both have huge welcome offers.
