Hey
Have you ever heard of 'double player' mode? It's when one person signs up for a credit card, then invites their significant other (or family member, or friend) since nearly every card offers a referral bonus.
We always do this within my family, though there are some cards that make it really worth it, and some that don't. These are my favorites, including the bonuses they offer:
- This card is the best I'm aware of. The annual fee is only $95, yet you get 100k points when you sign up, and given this bank's transfer partners, those are valuable points. Even better, you get 40k points when you refer someone. The only catch is this is a business card, but if you or your partner are independent contractors, or plan to sell or have sold items in the past, you could count as a business. It's simpler than it seems.
- This card regularly offers 20-30k points for referring friends and family, and if you get lucky, the referral bonus displayed to your friend might be up to 150k miles! Try different windows and browsers to up the ante on the points if at first you don't see the elevated referral offer.
- This card offers 75,000 points when you sign up, and 20k points for every dollar referral. It's not as high as the others, but this card is always on my list because they offer 2x points for every dollar spent, and these can be transferred to a nice range of airlines.
Tour UPDATE
Interested in joining to swim with whales in French Polynesia? We're running this magical trip again this coming August-September, and you can find out more and sign up here.
Keep in mind, your friend MUST use your referral link for the bonus. I've seen some issues in the past with Chase awarding the bonus, so make sure you call them if 12 weeks passes without a bonus. Also keep in mind, unfortunately referral points are taxable (unlike points you earn for signing up for a card or through spending), however you'd need to refer more than 60k points worth to trigger the document (in most cases). Still, I used 100k points that I got through referral bonuses for a $5k business class seat last year, and even though those 100k points were considered $1000 in income, they went much farther than that.
