Alaska is calling

Listen, we know we offer some amazing international travel destinations, but this week we're highlighting one of our favorite domestic locations...Alaska!

From the fresh seafood, to vast wilderness, to ample wildlife, we just can't get enough of this state!

Here are five cool facts to help convince you that your next adventure should be Alaska!

1. It has around 100,000 glaciers

While there are only 616 named glaciers in Alaska, the Alaska Almanac estimates that there are around 100,000 glaciers in total, with around 1,000 all located in Glacier Bay!

2. It is sparsely populated

Alaska's population density is only one person per square mile...meaning there is plenty of wide open wilderness for you to explore!

3. It's closer to Russia than you may think

With only 50 miles separating Alaska and Russia, if cars could drive on water, you could be there in under an hour.

4. Dog mushing is its state sport

Not only is it their state sport, it used to be their main form of transportation and the Iditarod sled dog race is the state's most popular sporting event.

This is such an integral part to Alaska's history that we made sure to add a dog mushing demonstration to our Alaska trip.

4. It has its own "Big 5"

Similar to the infamous Big 5 South African animals, Alaska has its own set of Big 5 animals: Grizzly bears, moose, caribou, Dall sheep, and gray wolves.

These best spot to see all five of these animals is in Denali National Park.
