Costa Rica is home to over 500,000 species of animals? Or that it's one of the happiest places in the world?

1. Costa Rica contains 5% of the world's biodiversity

Costa Rica is home to more than 500,000 animal species, which makes up nearly 5% of the estimated total species in the world!

This vast array of species ranks Costa Rica amongst the top 20 countries in the world with the highest biodiversity.

2. It has no army

Following the bloody Civil War to upend communism in 1948, the country decided to permanently get rid of its army.

Although they do not have an actual army, they do still have police and border control.

3. Its classified as of the happiest places in the world

Seriously! Ranked 16th out of the world according to the World Population Review in 2021, and 1st for Latin America, Costa Rica's strong social bonds, clean environment, and investment in education all lend to creating on of the happiest populations of citizens.

4. Most of Costa Rica's energy comes from renewable sources

Costa Rica has made monumental strides in the renewable energy industry.

It is also well on its way to being a completely carbon neutral country. Currently at 62%, its goal is to be 100% carbon neutral in 2022.

5. Pura Vida: it's both a saying and a lifestyle

Translating to "pure life", this motto is embodied by locals in everything they do.

Enjoy the moment. Be thankful for what you have. Don't dwell on the negative. All of these life approaches make up the Costa Rican Pura Vida lifestyle.
