We've booked flights and have plans to visit friends and family in Cape Town later this year!
I'm SO excited!
The past 18 months have been really difficult for us to navigate with Meyer being South African and working to get his Green Card. Not to mention all of the travel restrictions in place for re-entering the United States.
We were really worried that if we were to go back to South Africa, Meyer might risk not being able to re-enter the US... and I don't even know what we would do at that point.
However, now that Meyer has his Green Card, we cannot wait to get back to Cape Town—even if it's just for a two-week visit.
Since South Africa is in the Southern Hemisphere, it's the opposite season to us in California. I've always loved chasing the eternal summer and spending the US winters basking in the Cape Town summer.
We're also planning to scout wedding venues while we're there — YAY!
It feels like wedding planning has been so far on the backburner with everything that's been going on, but we're keeping the ball rolling and it gives us something to look forward to.
Meyer's whole family will also be in South Africa when we visit, so it'll be fantastic to see them, along with some of our best friends. After nearly two years of being apart, I'm already emotionally preparing myself for all the happy tears to come.
On another note, the flight to South Africa from California is NO JOKE.
It's about 30 hours of travel... While the trip is absolutely worth it, it's obviously a bit more comfortable if you can upgrade your flight. In all my travels, I've NEVER paid full fare for a Business Class flight (the full fare is just bonkers) — I've always upgraded or booked using points.
But, when we saw that Qatar Airlines had an incredible sale on their QSuites Business Class earlier this year, we jumped at the opportunity to book. The QSuites are the best business class product I've ever flown.
The center suites become a private room and the seats combine into a double bed. It's crazy cool!
This is one of those flights where upgrading makes a huge difference, so we were very thankful to get a good deal on the airfare...and we're thrilled to go back to our other home. :)
That's it for now!
